Providence Area Events This Weekend
Welcome to our GoProvidence Weekend Roundup with all the hottest happenings in PVD this weekend.
Brown University students are taking over the Avon Cinema this weekend for the Brown Indie Premiere, a two-day showcase of short indie films from emerging filmmakers. With screenings both Friday and Saturday, it's a great excuse to check out some fresh local talent at one of Providence's most beloved movie houses.
Every Friday evening, Roger Williams Park Zoo and Carousel Village becomes the city's liveliest corner. Food Truck Fridays rounds up more than 15 local trucks, cold drinks and plenty of family fun. Think of it as the weekend pregame you didn't know you needed.
Saturday morning brings a cool piece of living history to the State House. In honor of Rhode Island Independence Day, the Act of Renunciation will be on special display as part of the ongoing 250th Anniversary commemorations. Rhode Island was actually the first colony to officially renounce allegiance to the British Crown, so if you're looking to do some patriotic sightseeing, this is your spot.
Also on Saturday, Track 15 is throwing a Kentucky Derby Party that's basically a full fashion event with horse racing vibes. Think hat embellishments, a rose wall photo backdrop, a portrait artist and prizes for Best Hat, Best Dressed and Best Dressed Couple. Mint julep sold separately.
The new A Bug's World exhibit at the zoo is exactly what it sounds like, and somehow so much more. Hands-on, immersive and genuinely fascinating, it's a reminder that the smallest creatures in your backyard are doing some pretty heavy lifting.
