Here in Rhode Island, we love the familiar: familiar faces, familiar landmarks and familiar brands. And this weekend, two of Rhode Island’s biggest and most familiar names are teaming up for one epic evening in downtown Providence. This Saturday, July 8, don’t miss the full WaterFire lighting supported by Dunkin’.
The lighting begins at 8:22 p.m., but there is plenty to do while you’re downtown. Start at the College Street Bridge and stop by the Dunkin’ Pavilion where you can grab some free coffee and donuts, plus play a few yard games.
The WaterFire Arts Festival Plaza at Washington and Steeple Streets comes to life at 6:30 p.m. with local vendors who will be offering photography, jewelry, artwork and more. Browse the shops and pick up some goods to support the local arts economy as you take in one of Providence’s signature arts and cultural events.
There, join Dunkin’ for a live, interactive stained glass mosaic table creation in collaboration with Jeanne Raia from Glimmerglass Stained Glass. Kids can keep busy with coloring books and crayons, too.
Stop by Canal Street for the WaterFire Marketplace where you can support WaterFire with more locally-designed gifts and glass blowing by Gather Glass.
Before the lighting ceremony, grab some food from festival favorites along Washington Street, College Street and Canal Walk including Kettle Korn Express, One2Taco&More, Full House Q, The Incredabowl Food Company, Duck Press and Caribbean Delights. Trinity Brewhouse will be offering local beer and wine at the corner of Canal and Steeple Streets and Canal and Washington Streets.
When it’s time to light the braziers, find a good spot at Waterplace Park to catch the beginning of the lighting ceremony. It is beautiful and you don’t want to miss it!
Head over to the Dunkin’ Music Stage on Steeple Street for live music from local musical act Funkademic who will be performing throughout the night. Their sets begin at 8:00 p.m., 9:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m.
If the magic of WaterFire leaves you in the giving spirit, Dunkin’ is raising funds for the Joy in Childhood Foundation which helps provide the simple joys of childhood to kids battling hunger or illness. You’ll find opportunities to donate throughout the evening.
