Confession: I almost never manage to pack lunch. Most mornings, I'm doing good if I get out the door with my laptop and a cup of coffee. Luckily, there's no shortage of fabulous lunch spots within walking distance of our downtown office where I can grab a sandwich on the run. Here are a few of my favorites:

Geoff's Superlative Sandwiches
Geoff's Superlative Sandwiches has been a Providence staple for more than 40 years, and with more than 90 unique sandwiches on the menu, you're sure to find whatever you're in the mood for. Try a Paul & Al (hot pepperoni, spinach, American, provolone and Italian dressing), a Jaws (tuna and your choice of melted cheese) or The Geoff, a classic hot pastrami with melted Swiss. Don't forget to ask for a pickle!
Hope & Main Downtown Makers Marketplace
Stop into Hope & Main's Downtown Makers Marketplace for tea and a tuna melt or grab one of their pre-made sandwiches and salads to go. While you're there, take a browse through the market and pick up some of the local small food business wares launched through their culinary incubator in Warren.
Caffe Nero
Just steps away from the Rhode Island Convention Center and Amica Mutual Pavilion, Caffe Nero's coffee game is on point. Even better, you can have your sandwich on focaccia, a croissant or a baguette (not to mention calzones), so you're sure to find something to your taste.
Malted Barley
What's better than a sandwich? A sandwich on a handcrafted pretzel. The Malted Barley serves made-to-order deliciousness like the BLT (go for the garlic aioli) or the meatball on a garlic and parsley pretzel.
Ellie's
In the mood for something a little fancier? Try Ellie's for the Croque Monsieur and a side of Ellie's Poutine. Be sure to save room for one of their scrumptious desserts. And hey, you can always burn off the extra calories with a lunchtime stroll along the RiverWalk. Or just take the scenic route back to your office or hotel room.
With so many great options, you could celebrate National Sandwich Day (Nov. 3) every day of the week.
